Once viewed as a fringe movement, the trend toward taking care of our environment through independent and collective action has developed into what we know today as “Green Design”. Today’s consumer is interested in healthy living and looks for products such as these that support this ideal.

(A) Bamboo Flooring - Exotic and elegant, the beauty of bamboo will enhance any interior while remaining true to its natural origins. Recognized as a true gem in modern sustainable architecture, bamboo is environmentally sound, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable.

(B) Lyptus - Plantation grown in FSC certified forests, Lyptus is an environmentally friendly alternative for wood cabinetry. Lyptus is a durable wood with a cherry like color that provides a rich and elegant  finished appearance.

(C) Cork Flooring - A healthy choice and good investment that when properly maintained, will last for generations. Cork floors create a warm, comfortable, resilient surface that is gentle underfoot, is anti-microbial, fire-resistant, and is inherently resistant to mold, mildew and common pests.

(D) Vetrazzo Countertops - Made with 85% recycled glass, Vetrazzo surfaces express both style and respect for the earth without compromise. These artful surfaces are incredibly strong and durable giving you an alternative to non-renewable resources such as virgin granite.

(E) Mix & Match - This photo illustrates how various “green” products can be combined into an overall design. This kitchen features a dual level island using Vetrazzo recycled glass and Lyptus countertops, bamboo cabinetry and reclaimed wood flooring.

Portfolio is a proud member of the NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association), who realizes the demand to create ecologically responsible interiors that don’t sacrifice style or comfort. Their newest website (nkba.org/green) includes articles on green design, a listing of green companies and a green glossary.

The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced video that exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more socially responsible and sustainable world. It just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.
